Serious branding
At the end of August 2009 Ikea changed it’s typeface. Not that usual in itself as it’s an effective method of updating a brand and keeping it fresh. What was unusual is the consequent backlash against the move by the general population and the press. People realised they cared about something that they hadn’t cared about before.
This emphasises the fickleness of the consumer and the importance of branding as an industry. There’s a huge responsibility in changing aspects of an already established brand. People rely on these brands for their salary - it’s their livelihood. If you mess up a brand it can have serious consequences (ask GAP).
This is why you should always trust an agency when undertaking the slightest brand adjustments. Because more people than you think care. They just don’t know it.
